Monastery Mill Odernheim

Old name of the Disibodenberg vineyard; see there.

Disibodenberg

The winery is located in the municipality of Odernheim in the German wine-growing region of Nahe. It is located at the foot of the Disibodenberg, on which the picturesque ruins of the former Disibodenberg monastery stand. Its origins date back to the 7th century, when the Irish monk Disibod stuck his walking stick into the ground and, according to legend, it began to sprout as a vine. Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) lived here between 1106 and 1147 and wrote her most important work "Scivias" here. The Benedictines and later Cistercians brought viticulture to flourish around the Disibodenberg. In the Middle Ages, the monastery mill belonged to the monastery as a farm.
