Martha's Vineyard

The vineyard with 14 hectares of vineyards (35 acres) is located on the slopes of Mount Veeder near Oakville in California's Napa Valley. It is owned by Tom and Martha May, so the name is derived from the owner (and has nothing to do with the island or the AVA area of the same name in the state of Massachusetts). Only Cabernet Sauvignon is cultivated, the grapes are processed by the friendly winery Heitz. For the first time a wine was pressed from this vineyard in 1965 but not sold, the first commercial vintage was 1966. The red wine is aged for at least 36 months in French or American barrique barrels. It is not put on sale until four years after the grape harvest at the earliest. The wine is marketed with a label "Heitz Cellar", which rather unobtrusively contains the text "Martha's Vineyard".

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
