History

According to the latest findings, Nordic seafarers reached the coasts of North America as early as around 1000 AD - long before Christopher Columbus. The Icelander Leif Eriksson probably landed at L'Anse aux Meadows (Newfoundland), not in Massachusetts, named the area Vinland ("wine country") and discovered wild grapevines growing there.
