Marie-Jeanne

Designation for a bottle oversize with a volume of 2.25 litres or the content of three normal bottles with 0.75 litres, which is rarely used today. The name is derived from Marie-Jeanne Ozeanne (1734-1786), who was one of the most famous wine bottle engravers of her time. This size, which is rarely used today, can still be found on old Bordeaux bottles until the early 1970s. The picture shows a bottle of Château Cheval Blanc vintage 1947 The bottle format Tregnum and the hollow measure Tappit hen also include 2.25 litres. See a list of all bottle designations under Bottles and generally under Wine Vessels.
