largest wine cellar in the world

The world's largest wine cellar in the Guinness Book of Records is owned by the Moldovan winery Mileștii Mici; see there.

The winery is located around ten kilometres from the Moldovan capital Chișinău and is considered one of the country's most important tourist attractions. The state estate was founded in 1969 in the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic. The name could be derived from "milește" (to be far away) and "mici" (small).

Mileștii Mici - Keller

Largest wine cellar in the world

Since the 1970s, the limestone tunnels of a disused mine have been used to store wine. The total length of the tunnels is 250 kilometres, of which 50 kilometres are in use. The wines are stored at a depth of 30 to 85 metres in ideal conditions with temperatures of 12 to 14 ºC and 85 to 95% relative humidity. The tunnels can be visited by bike, car or in guided groups on small electric trains. Guided tours of the underground wine town and commented wine tastings are offered.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
