Name for a former small, steep vineyard in the municipality of Dürnstein in the Wachau wine-growing region (Lower Austria). The name refers to the steepness of the slope. However, the vineyard above the "Pfeffel" garden hotel is no longer cultivated today. In the 1950s, the then "Winzergenossenschaft Wachau" - today's Domäne Wachau - had the name protected and produced the branded wine "Dürnsteiner Katzensprung" for a long time. Today, wines are produced under the name "Wachauer Katzensprung", for which the grapes can come from all over the Wachau. The same applies to the "Wachauer Himmelstiege" brand owned by Domäne Wachau.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
