Karthäuserhofberg

single vineyard in the municipality of Eitelsbach (Ruwer area) in the German Moselle wine-growing region. The vineyard was given to the Carthusian monks as a gift by the Elector Balduin of Luxembourg (1285-1354) in 1335. The site used to be divided into the Burgberg, Kronenberg, Orthsberg, Sang and Stirn areas, but this is no longer done today. The vineyard, which faces south-southeast to south-southwest at an altitude of 170 to 275 metres above sea level, covers 19 hectares of vineyards with a slope of up to 100% (45°). The stony Devonian slate weathered soil is criss-crossed with iron veins. It has a good water balance. Here 95% of the grapes are Riesling and some Pinot Blanc. The Karthäuserhof is the sole owner of the site.
