ICUMSA

Abbreviation for "International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysys" International Commission for Uniform Methods of Sugar Analysys. The most obvious quality characteristic of sugar is its colour, which can range from an almost pure white to yellowish brown. In order to be able to classify the reflective colour of white sugar, the ICUMSA has defined a colour type scale that covers a range from 0 to 6. Colour type 0 corresponds to a sugar of the lowest colour, colour type 6 to a strongly coloured sugar. This standard has recently been used in Germany for determining the sugar content in grape must and resulted in a reorientation for the Oechsle grades with regard to must weight (Oechsle). There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
