Grape harvester

Devices for a mechanical grape harvest are available as trailed or as self-propelled machines as shown in the picture on the left. By means of vibration shaking with up to more than 500 vibrations per minute, the rows of vines are set into vibration and thus the berries are shaken off the grapes. The shaken off crop is collected and fed into containers, the stalk remains on the shoots. The grapes are cleaned of leaves, stem residues and shoot parts by blowers. The prerequisite for full harvesting machines is a stable wire-frame cultivation with corresponding height/width of the vine rows as well as grapes that are as ripe and healthy as possible. The mechanical method is not suitable for Trockenbeerenauslese, as the berries would burst open. In viticulture, however, a manual harvest is still considered a sign of quality, although numerous undercover tastings have not shown any statistically reliable difference in quality.
