The family business of the Counts of Schönborn, headquartered in Wiesentheid in Franconia(Germany), comprises the five business areas of agriculture, forestry, sawmill, pond management and catering in addition to viticulture. The entire business has been managed by Paul Graf von Schönborn since 1998. Vineyards owned by the noble family in the Rheingau municipality of Winkel are documented as early as 1349. This marked the beginning of the Count von Schönborn's rich winemaking tradition. The Schönborns were one of the first to bottle their hand-picked wines in hand-blown bottles as early as 1725. A 1735 "Johannisberger" from the treasury of the estate is one of the earliest known bottlings in Germany and still sets the standard for the most expensive wine in Germany today. As one of the founding members of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter), the Counts of Schönborn have always attached particular importance to quality, Rheingau typicity and site diversity. Wineries are operated in the Rheingau and Franconia.
