Feuerzangenbowle

Probably the most famous punch in the world (even before the 1944 film with Heinz Rühmann). To make it, you need: 2 bottles of red wine, 1 bottle of high-proof rum, 4 cloves, the juice of 2 oranges, orange peel and a sugar loaf weighing about 300 grams. The orange juice and red wine are heated in a kettle and then the cloves and orange peel are added. The sugar loaf is hung across the cauldron on fire tongs, the rum poured over it and lit. The rum must be poured in again and again until the sugar loaf has completely melted. The drink is served in pre-warmed punch glasses. See also under mixed wine drinks and drinks containing wine.
