Producer description of "Dominio de Atauta"

The winery is located in the municipality of Atauta (province of Soria) in the northern Spanish region of . It was founded in 1999 with the construction of a state-of-the-art winery. It is owned by the Avanteselecte Group, which owns eight other wineries in different regions of Spain. Ismael Sanz (vineyard management) and Almudena Alberca (winemaking) are responsible for the operation of the winery, with Eulogio Calleja as oenological advisor. The vineyards cover 15 hectares of its own vineyards, and grapes are delivered from another 30 controlled areas. The areas are spread over 500 plots. Only a special the Tinto Fino) variety is cultivated, which dates back to the period. The vines are on average 120 to 140 years old. Accordingly, the are very low at around 2,500 kg/ha, which results in less than one bottle of wine per vine.
