The winery in Saint-Etienne-du-Grès is located in the AC Les Baux-en-Provence on the northern side of the Alpilles in the French region of Provence. It was founded in 1974 by the architect Eloi Durrbach, who converted his grandmother's summer residence into a winery. Half of the 20 hectares of vineyards are planted with the red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Using methods of natural, organic viticulture and drastic yield minimisation, a red wine is produced that has attracted international attention. However, the wine is "only" classified as IGP (local wine) Bouches-du-Rhône due to the non-compliance with AOC requirements, which does not detract from the quality. A barrel-fermented white wine is also produced from the Marsanne and Roussanne varieties.
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
