The Italian oenologist Dr Riccardo Cotarella (*1948) is one of the most sought-after consultants and is considered a pioneer of the Italian wine industry. After completing his training in Conegliano (Veneto) in 1968, he began working at the Vaselli winery in Orvieto. In 1979, he founded the Falesco winery in Montefiascone with his brother Renzo, who worked for Antinori. Initially creating white wines for large bottlers, he was soon dubbed the "Wizard of White Wine" for his pioneering work with indigenous white grape varieties such as Grechetto. The "Montiano", first made in 1993 from Merlot in barrique, made him famous and subsequently led to extensive consultancy work.
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
