commune

Demarcated area for which certain provisions of the wine law are applicable. In viticulture, this usually refers to a municipality, not only the municipality itself but also the areas or vineyards outside it. In individual cases, such a district can also be identical to an Appellation d'Origine Protégée (France) or a DOC area (Italy), but such defined designations of origin usually consist of several to many districts (municipal areas). In the German-speaking area, district corresponds to a field. See also lists of relevant keywords on this subject under vineyard and vineyard.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
