The winery is located in the municipality of Barsac in the Sauternes area (Graves, Bordeaux). It should not be confused with the Château Suau of the same name in the municipality of Capian (Premières Côtes de Bordeaux). Its origins date back to the end of the 17th century, when it was owned by the Tarneau family. Through marriage, it came into the possession of the eponymous Suau family. After many changes of ownership, the vineyards (not the château) have belonged to Roger Biarnès since 1961. The wine is produced on his second estate Château Navarro in Cérons. It was classified as Deuxième Grand Cru Classé (Sauternes) in the Bordeaux classification in 1855. The vineyards cover eight hectares and are planted with the Sémillon (80%), Sauvignon Blanc (10%) and Muscadelle (10%) varieties. The long-lasting, noble sweet wine is matured in used barriques. The red wine varieties occupy a much larger area of 50 hectares.
