Charmont

The white grape variety (also Pully 1-33) is a new breed between Chasselas x Chardonnay. It was crossed in Switzerland in 1965 by the two breeders Jean-Louis Simon and André Jaquinet at the Federal Research Institute Changins near Nyon (canton of Vaud). The Doral variety was also created with the same parents. This early-ripening vine is susceptible to botrytis and tends to have small berries. It produces fresh, full-bodied white wines that are quite similar to Chardonnay. The variety is mainly cultivated in the two Swiss cantons of Geneva and Valais. In 2016, a total of 10 hectares of vineyard area were designated (Kym Anderson statistics).
