The red grape variety originates from Ukraine; the name means "Black Colonel". Synonyms are Djevat Kara, Dshevat Kara, Dzhevat Kara, Jewath and Polkovnik Kara. It is grown on the Crimean peninsula. It is mostly used in blends with the Ekim Kara variety in fortified wines, for example in the branded wine Chorny Doktor from Solnechnaya Dolina or in products from the famous state winery Massandra. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
