The winery is located in the municipality of Höflein in It is run by Jörg Bretz, who, after completing his apprenticeship as a winegrower in Franconia and studying to become a graduate engineer in viticulture and cellar management in , gained practical experience in Germany , , , ), Switzerland, South Tyrol, Tuscany, Austria (, ) and South Africa (Kaapzicht Estate). The business initially began with the purchase of grapes and wines from the wine-growing region in . Since the 2005 vintage, grapes from their own vineyards in the wine-growing region in have also been processed.
