The "Verband Blaufränkischland Mittelburgenland" (VBM) was founded in 1989 with the aim of positioning and promoting the production and marketing of red wines from the Blaufränkisch variety in the Austrian wine-growing region of Mittelburgenland through wine presentations, participation in trade fairs and by means of publications. It is considered the umbrella organisation of the Central Burgenland wine industry and includes the municipalities of Deutschkreutz, Großwarasdorf, Horitschon, Lutzmannsburg, Neckenmarkt, Raiding and Unterpetersdorf as well as the winegrowers' cooperatives of the region. Association members are 17 winegrowers or winegrowing enterprises in Mittelburgenland who are involved in the production and marketing of the Blaufränkisch variety. The designation "Herkunft Mittelburgenland kontrolliert mit Garantie" (HMKG) is to be understood as a trademark of down-to-earth, regionally typical Blaufränkisch quality from Blaufränkischland-Mittelburgenland. These goals are supported by constant quality controls with sensory tests and wine evaluations by a tasting commission. As a flagship, 20 top wines of the region are selected annually by a jury and presented with the slogan "B - A special one from Blaufränkischland".

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
