ZAP

Abbreviation for the association "Zinfandel Advocates & Producers" founded in 1991. It consists of almost 6,000 advocates and over 310 producers both in the USA and internationally in many countries. Its goal is to recognize and promote the unique position of the Zinfandel grape variety in American wine history and wine culture. ZAP organizes seminars, educational programs, conferences such as the annual "Zinposium" and wine tastings. It also manages various projects such as the development of a special aroma wheel and the so-called "Heritage Vineyard". In this one-acre vineyard of the UC Davis Research Station Oakville in the Napa Valley, very old and rare Californian Zinfandel clones are cultivated for research on the origin and history of the vine. Every year in January, a large Zinfandel Festival is held in San Francisco for ZAP members.
