By far the largest wine-growing region in the US state of California, stretching over more than half of the state from north to south for a length of over 600 kilometers. It is sometimes also referred to as Inland Valleys or Delta & Inlands. To the west, it borders the two regions Central Coast and North Coast, and in the eastern center, the Sierra Foothills region. The vast Central Valley encompasses a total of 220,000 hectares of vineyard area.
Of this, 140,000 hectares are planted with wine grapes and 80,000 hectares are used for the significant production of table grapes and raisins in California. The base wines for over 90% of California's brandies are also produced here. The Central Valley is one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world.
