vintage character

Designation for the taste which is or may be typical of a given vintage for wines of a given vintage due to climatic conditions of the year in question for a given wine-growing area. Not infrequently, these are negative characteristics, e.g. due to persistent frosts during the growing season, they are called frost flavors. See also under climate.
