Vinaria

Leading Austrian magazine for wine culture, published six times a year. Editor-in-chief is Peter Schleimer, the wine journalist Dr. Michael Prónay is responsible for the final editing. The same publishing house publishes the wine guide "Vinaria - the wine guide" once a year. It describes more than 200 wineries or winegrowers with more than a thousand wines as well as the Austrian growing regions and grape varieties. The most important admission criterion for the wineries is a three-year ranking, which is intended to guarantee high quality over a longer period of time. A vintage table from 1985 onwards, a glossary and an introduction to the topic of wine evaluation complete the work. Around 1,500 wines were professionally tasted and evaluated in a 20-point system. Only 70 of them were selected as three-star candidates, of which 27 wines were selected in a second tasting as the absolute top of the local scene. The international wine awarding event AWC (International Austrian Wine Challenge - Vienna) 2005 was supported by Vinaria in terms of publicity.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
