DOC area for red and rosé wines on the south-west shore of Lake Garda between Desenzano and Salò in the Italian region of Lombardy. It comprises around 600 hectares of vineyards in 14 municipalities.
It was created in 2011 by replacing individual areas of the former DOC area Riviera del Garda Bresciano, which was renamed Riviera del Garda Classico. Valtènesi was initially managed as a subzone within this area before it was given the status of an independent DOC in 2017 in order to emphasise the identity of the wines made from the indigenous Groppello variety. The geographical indications Manerba, Mocasina, Moniga, Padenghe, Picedo, Polpenazze, Portese, Puegnago, Raffa, San Felice and Soiano can also appear on the label. These are partly municipalities and partly districts within the DOC area.

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
