The winery is located in the municipality of Avio, south of Trento (Trento) in the Italian wine-growing area of Trentino (Trentino-Alto Adige region). The name is derived from an old place name. The winery was acquired by Ezio Scienza in 1963 and has been run by his son Filippo and his wife Barbara Scienza since 1998. After completing his oenological training at the Istituto Agrario di San Michele all'Adige, the owner gained practical experience in Tuscany, Germany, Burgundy in France and the USA.
The vineyards cover eight hectares of vines. The dry stone walls built there are an ideal habitat for many small animals. The red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Marzemino are cultivated, as well as the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Blanc. The vineyards are cultivated according to ecological guidelines with cover crop, organic fertilisation, pest control using confusion methods (pheromone traps) and no pesticides. Only very sparing use is made of pesticides during vinification. The product range includes various wines from the DOC Trentino and IGT Vallagarina.
