Tree education

A species already in use in antiquity vine training; see under Alberata.

A system of cultivation already used in ancient times by the Greeks and Romans, in which the vines grow on or between trees (alberata = small trees). Small-growing or annually pruned mulberry trees, chestnuts, maples, poplars or elms serve as support. Two to four vines were planted for each tree.
