Name (alberata = small tree) for a vine that was already in use in ancient times by the Greeks and Romans vine training. The vines were grown on or between trees, on which they climbed upwards. It belongs to the group of tree training. Small or annually pruned mulberry trees, chestnuts, maples, poplars or elms were used as support. Two to four vines were planted next to each tree.
