The red grape variety (also Tinta Mole) originates from Portugal. The ancestry (parentage) is unknown. It was a parent of the variety Tinto do Aurelio, which was created by natural crossing. The high-yielding vine yields dark-coloured red wines. It is cultivated in the Ribatejo region. In 2016, 30 hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson).
