Swellendam

Wine growing area (district) in South Africa, which belongs to the Cape South Coast region. It is named after the town founded in 1743, whose name is derived from the Cape Governor Hendrik Swellengrebel (1734-1803). There are the Wards Buffeljags, Malgas and Stormsvlei. Mainly mass wines are produced by large cooperatives.
