South Coast

One of the five wine-growing regions in California (also Southern Area). The region, which is less important in terms of viticulture, is located between the two cities of Los Angeles in the north and San Diego on the border with Mexico in the south. It includes the subtropical counties south of the Tehachapi Mountains with the highest peak Double Mountain at 2433 meters. The hot climate is tempered by its proximity to the Pacific coast. There is the region-wide AVA area South Coast for wines from grapes from several counties. The counties with their AVA areas are:

  • Los Angeles County, with its single vineyard Malibu-Newton Canyon
  • Riverside County: Cucamonga Valley, Temecula
  • San Bernardino County: Cucamonga Valley
  • San Diego County: Ramona Valley, San Pasqual Valley
