The white grape variety originates from Spain. The parentage is unknown. The variety, almost extinct after the phylloxera catastrophe, was rediscovered in 2000 near Aiguamúrcia in the Penedès area in the Catalonia region in a vineyard surrounded by Parellada vines and named after the nearby castle ruin Castell de Selma. It was replanted by the Torres winery as part of a reactivation programme for old, autochthonous varieties. The vine yields spicy, acid accentuated white wines with a vegetal aroma. In 2016, no stock was reported (Kym Anderson).
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
