The Schellmann family has a three hundred year old wine-growing tradition in the municipality of Gumpoldskirchen (wine-growing region Thermenregion, Lower Austria). The last in the long wine-growing family history was Gottfried Schellmann (1928-2004), who is considered the pioneer and wine-growing doyen of the area. For some time he also ran the already legendary restaurant-disco "Weinstadl", a popular promenade hangout. As early as the 1970s, Schellmann was the pioneer of a dry, fruit-driven wine style in contrast to the "lovely Gumpoldskirchner style" that was common at the time. He also initiated the founding of the winegrowers' association Thermenwinzer (but it no longer exists). After the death of Gottfried Schellmann, the winery was repositioned in 2005; it was leased by Fred Loimer.
