Schampanskoje Krimskoje

The famous Russian sparkling wine "Shampanskoye Krimskoye" was first produced in 1799 on the Crimean peninsula in what were then only small quantities for the Russian tsar's court. Count Leo Sergeyevich Golitsyn (died 1916), who founded his winery Novyi Svet in Sudak in 1878, which still exists today, and won a Grand Prix trophy for his product at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900, did this on a large scale and in correspondingly high quality.
