The white grape variety probably originates from Spain. However, the exact origin and parentage is unknown. It was a crossing partner of the Slovakian new variety Breslava. Santa Maria d'Alcantara or Sainte Marie d'Alcantara is also a synonym of the red variety Black Alicante. Nothing is known about a possible genetic link to this variety. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
