Rolling sickness

This disease, originating from the Middle East, has been known in Europe for a long time and is the most widespread grapevine virose. It is caused by the Grapevine leafroll associated virus (GLRaV), which nests in the phloem of the leading tissue. Viruses as the cause of the disease were recognised by the German grapevine breeder Georg Scheu (1879-1949). The different viruses (closter viruses) are designated with a number, seven different ones have been discovered so far (GLRaV1-7). The disease manifests itself in Europe beginning in July, the symptoms vary depending on the grape variety. The leaves begin to change colour in all shades - red in dark grape varieties and yellow in white...
