Ripatella

For decades it was assumed that the red grape variety was the result of a cross between a Vitis riparia wild vine x Taylor. The name (also Ripadella, Ripertella, Ripotella) is the result of a corruption of the two (supposed) parent variety names. Under this name the vine is/was one of the approved varieties for the Burgenland wine speciality Uhudler (Austria). A DNA analysis carried out at the Geisenheim Institute in 2016 revealed that it is identical to the Concord variety. The wine made from it with Foxton has always been described as similar to Concord.
