Prince Edward

Synonym for the grape variety Cunningham; see there.

The red grape variety originates from the USA. Synonyms are Barco do Porto, Gropel, Long, Longs and Prince Edward. The hybrid was discovered and selected by the breeder J. Cunningham in 1812. It was later named after him. The vine was described in 1883 by the vintner George Husmann (1827-1902). According to analyses by the South African biochemist Dr. Jeronimo (Jerry) Rodrigues, the Cunningham variety originated from self-pollination of the already extinct Red...
