The winery is located in the municipality of Camporeale (province of Palermo) in the Italian region of Sicily. It is owned by Marco Sferlazzo. The vineyards cover ten hectares of vines planted with Catarratto Bianco (white wine) and Nero d'Avola (red wine). They were planted between 1974 and 1985 and face north to protect the vines from excessive exposure to the sun and thus from damage. The name (meaning "gate of the wind") refers to the winds that blow quite strongly here. The temperature fluctuations between day and night are considerable. Biologically certified viticulture is practised with no synthetic substances and fertilisation with inorganic substances. Only products based on copper and sulphur are used to combat pests and diseases.
