The white grape variety probably originates from the north of ItalySüdtirol). Synonyme sind Bianchetto de Verzuolo, Bionchetta, Blatterle, Blatterl und Platterle. Die Abstammung (Elternschaft) ist unbekannt. Der Name leitet sich nach einer Version von den etwas abgeplatteten Beeren, nach einer anderen Version von der Beschaffenheit des Fruchtfleisches und der Beerenhaut, sowie nach einer dritten von den „kleinen Blättern“ ab.
