The white grape variety probably originates from the north of Italy(South Tyrol). Synonyms are Bianchetto de Verzuolo, Bionchetta, Blatterle, Blatterl and Platterle. The ancestry (parentage) is unknown. According to one version, the name derives from the somewhat flattened berries, according to another version from the texture of the flesh and the skin of the berries, and according to a third from the "small leaves". It was alreadydescribed by the Austrian ampelographer Hermann GoetheGoethe Hermann (1837-1911). The early ripening vine tends to trickle .It used to bewidespread in South Tyrol (Italy). Today it is only cultivated in small quantities by a few wineries, for example Gummerhof , Mayr-Nusser and Unterortl , but no stocks were reported in 2016 (Statistics Kym AndersonAnderson Kym).
Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
