Platter John

John Platter mit seinem South African Wine Guide The wine critic and wine journalist John Platter is considered the South African "wine pope". Together with his wife Erica he founded the wine guide "John Platter's South African Wine Guide", which has been published since 1978. The main part is the A to Z of South African Wines & Wineries. Here the wineries are characterised and recommended wines are discussed and evaluated. The wine evaluation system is based on the awarding of up to five stars, which are awarded in steps of half a star. Only the absolutely best wines are awarded five stars. Interesting wines start at two and a half stars (good wine for every day), then go in half star increments up to the absolute top wines with a maximum of five stars (superlative classic). In addition, the white wine, red wine and winery of the year are awarded.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
