Oswald Volker

Producer description of "Weingut Oswald"

The winery is situated in the municipality of Wahlheim (Wonnegau region) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. This long-established family business is run by Volker and Cornelia Oswald. Following his dual study programme in Neustadt an der Weinstraße and work placements at the Wittmann and Peth-Wetz wineries, their nephew Simon Müller-Oswald is responsible for the cellar. He is set to take over the business in the foreseeable future.

Vineyards & Grape Varieties

The vineyards cover eight hectares of vineyard area, some of which are planted with very old vines, in the single-vineyard sites of Schelmen (4.5 hectares, Wahlheim), as well as Fischerpfad and Goldberg (Alsheim). The main red grape varieties are Pinot Noir and Cabernet Mitos, whilst the main white grape varieties are Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. The vineyards are managed using natural methods in line with the estate’s motto: ‘As much as necessary, as little as possible’. These are primarily quality-enhancing measures involving the sparing use of machinery and organic fertilisation.
