The red grape variety comes from Italy. Synonyms are Morona, Morone Sbracato, Mostaiola del Lapi, Mostaione del Poggio Imperiale, Uva Moro, Uva Morone Nera and Uva Mostajone. It must not be confused with the variety Pinot Meunier (Morone Farinaccio), despite the fact that the synonym seems to indicate it. The parentage (parenthood) is unknown. The medium maturing vine is susceptible to botrytis. It produces colourful red wines for blending. The variety is cultivated in the province of Massa-Carrara in Tuscany, as well as in the Aosta Valley. The area under cultivation in 2010 was 13 hectares, with a downward trend (Kym Anderson).
