Morgenhof

The winery "Morgenhof Wine Estate" is located on the southwestern foothills of the Simonsberg in the South African wine district of Stellenbosch. It was already founded in 1692 by French Huguenots. After an eventful history, it was taken over in 1993 by Alain and Anne Cointreau-Huchon (descendants of the French spirits family) and a complete renovation of the buildings and vineyards was carried out. The new octagonal barrique cellar for 1,600 barrels is modelled on that of Château Lafite-Rothschild. Thanks to a well-kept park with paths, lakes and gardens, it has become a very popular tourist centre. The vineyards cover about 60 hectares of vines. They are planted with the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Malbec, Merlot, Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc. A wide range of white, red and sparkling wines is produced. The flagship is the red wine cuvée in Bordeaux style "Première Sélection". Around 360,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
