Mitolo

The Australian company "Mitolo Wines" with its headquarters in Virginia in the state of South Australia was founded in 1999 by the Italian-born Frank Mitolo and his wife Simone. It is a so-called virtual winery, which means that vineyards and cellars are also rented for a certain period of time as required. Frank Mitolo had previously grown potatoes on a huge scale and realised his childhood dream of making wine. He sold a part of his empire, invested the proceeds in vineyards in McLaren Vale and gave his young and at that time inexperienced friend and partner Ben Glaetzer from the famous winemaking family the chance to become a winemaker and cellar master. Already the first vintage "G.A.M. Shiraz" from the McLaren Vale became an international hit. And just five years later, at the age of 28, Glaetzer was voted "Australia's Young Winemaker of the Year". The wines are produced from grapes from the two renowned GI areas Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. There are the wine lines G.A.M. (named after the first names of three children Gemma, Alexander and Marco), Heartland, Jester, Reiver, Savitar and Serpico. The main grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Shiraz.
