The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Brugnara, Dinjka, Malvasia and Red Maalvasia. Nothing is known about the ancestry (parentage) or a possible relationship to the white variety Moscato di Scanzo (with synonym Uva Merera). The late-ripening vine is resistant to both powdery mildew and botrytis. It is cultivated in small quantities in Lombardy. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
