The winery "König Johann Weingut im Saartal" is located in the municipality of Konz-Filzen (Saar area) just outside the city of Trier in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. It is managed in the third family generation by the Schnur-Schmitt family, with Michael Schnur-Schmitt as manager and son Dennis Schmitt as cellar master. A guest house and a wine tavern are attached. The vineyards cover 11 hectares in the single vineyards Steinberger, Unterberg and Urbelt (Filzen), as well as König-Johann-Berg (Serrig). They are mainly planted with Riesling, as well as smaller stocks of Kerner and Regent. The vineyards, some of which are very old, are cultivated in a natural and sustainable manner. The extensive product range includes three lines: Estate Wines (classic, light, sparkling Saar wines), Local Wines (hand-picked wines from individual vineyards) and From the Best Sites (hand-selected wines from the König-Johann-Berg site and selected wines from Filzen sites). The wines are fermented spontaneously and vinified gently. They are vinified in stainless steel, and the premium wines are also vinified in half-barrels. The winery is a member of the Generation Riesling Association.
