The winery is located in the municipality of Winningen (Burg Cochem area) in the German Moselle wine-growing region. The family's wine-growing tradition dates back to 1642. The estate, which traded under the name "Gebrüder Knebel", was divided among family members in 1989. With his wife Beate, Reinhard Knebel (+2004) took over a 1.7 hectare share. After studying in Geisenheim and gaining practical experience at well-known wineries, son Matthias Knebel is responsible. Today, the vineyards cover just under seven hectares. The largest part is located in the extremely steep Röttgen site. Here, the Riesling vines are on average 40 years old, some of them ungrafted, and are planted in the traditional single-pole method. The rest is distributed among the Bruckstück, Hamm and Uhlen sites.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
