The wine multinational "Jackson Family Wines" with its headquarters in Santa Rosa in Sonoma County(California) since 1996 was founded in 1982 by Jess Stonestreet Jackson (1930-2011). The rapid rise and growth of the company corresponds exactly to the American cliché "from rags to riches". Jackson, who grew up in poor circumstances, tried his hand at a variety of jobs during his studies, including postman, dockworker, policeman, ambulance driver and lifeguard, before graduating with a law degree and studying real estate law. In 1974, he bought an 80-acre fruit ranch in the small town of Lakeport (Lake County, in the North Coast region) and planted vines.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
