The "Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique" (like its siblings CNRS, INSERM, INRIA and CEA) was founded in France in 1946 under the joint supervision of the Ministries of Research and Agriculture. The merger of INRA and IRSTEA (Institut national de la recherche agronomique) created INRAE (Institut national de recherche pour l'agriculture, l'alimentation et l'environnement) on 1 January 2020. The Institute is a public institution of a scientific and technological nature and specialises in biological issues with applicability to agriculture.
